Post 8: College Student Necessities

http://www.k12connection.org/college-student-necessities.html

1. What did I learn?
I learned once you graduate from high school college is usually is what's next on the "to do" list and many students want to move away to really experience the college life. This article gives good advice in what students will need to take once they move into their own place.

2. What else do I want to learn?
When I started college it was a whole different story, in this article it doesn't really inform the student that college is something you can be ready for, everyday is a challege because you are no longer in a small classroom where a teacher can answer your individual question. The teacher is on a tight schedule so he/she needs to go through the material quick.

3. Reflection
This article does give good necessities a college student for sure needs to read because they are on their own and won't have mommy and daddy a yell away to make them lunch or iron their clothes. This is where many students learn how to be independent for the first time in their lives.

Post 7: Keeping Arts in the School

http://www.k12connection.org/category/learning-activities

1. What did I learn?
I learned that too many students nowadays lack creativity so if the question were to come up if its worth funding arts in schools I would say yes it is. Even though most students are not going to become artists they do need to have creativity in their lives because creativity is used in every aspect of our lives. Not only do students need creativity us adults do as well, parents need to think of certain activites to keep their child entertained and as well do teachers to think of activites to do for a certain lesson.

2. What else do I want to learn?
I would like to learn what the school would want to add in this place if they were to take out music, art or drama in schools.

3. Reflection
Even in math problems music is being incoorporated because in each song is a fraction and students are learning this without having to solve a boring math problem on paper. There is so much benefit to having arts included in the curriculum.

Post 6: National PBS Survey Finds Teachers Want More Access to Classroom Tech

http://www.pbs.org

1. What did I learn?
I learned by reading this article that many school teachers are limited in rescources to help their students learn. In low-income communities this is an even greater challenge as 70% of teachers reported it as the greatest obstacle. 91% of teachers surveyed report having access to computers in their classrooms, but only 22% said they have the right level of technology.

2. What else do I want to learn?
I want to learn why certain educators will not allow teachers to use certain free programs to help teach their students. There are many programs that can be used and dont have to be costly for the district since I know right now times are hard and many districts can't afford to be spending the budget money on programs.

3. Reflection
It’s clear most teachers are embracing technology and need more resources, and PBS is committed to offering innovative tools and resources to support learning in classrooms across America.

Post 5: Green Reads

http://www.pbs.org

1. What did I learn?
I learned that this year marked the 42nd anniversary of Earth Day and how important it is to share this information to your students or children. In honor of Earth Day they have posted up enviornmental awareness and literacy to help students understand how important it is to help out with as little as recycling because any little thing can make a huge difference.

2. What else do I want to learn?
I would want to learn how Earth Day started since I myself am not very familiar with the facts about Earth Day. I would as want a few activites I can incoorporate in the classroom to help students understand the importance first hand.

3. Reflection
This imformation is very important for students all over the world to know because if noone takes care of the Earth, who will? We live and breath in it we might as well help keep it clean and beautiful.

Post 4: Using Dramatic Play in Kindergarten

http://www.k12connection.org/using-dramatic-play-in-kindergarten.html
1. What did I learn?
I learned from this article that imagination is what brings out the creativity in a person especially in a younger child. There are many ways to bring out their creativity and make it into an assignment, by using dramatic play many students are excited about being in a play and dont notice that they are actually learning while doing it.

2. What else do I want to learn?
I would want to learn about different activities that are effective and grabs the students attention so I can add it into my lesson once I get my own classroom. I think first year teachers need all the advice they can get from experienced teachers.

3. Reflection
After reading this article I learned how many lessons can be put into a teachers lesson and not only help the students learn but it grasps the kids attention and they have fun while doing it. I do think a lot of parents should read this because some parents do take away priledges from their kids and they are limiting their creativity in some cases.

Post 3: Preparing the Senior High Student for College and Beyond

http://www.k12connection.org/preparing-the-senior-high-student-for-college-and-beyond.html

1. What did I learn?
I learned the how to prepare for college not to long ago and I can say that it is hard, no one can teach you or tell you exactly how hard it will be and different college will be. You have to experience all of this on your own, I luckliy had an older sister who gave me a few tips going into college but the key to survival is make friends in class to have a study group.
2. What else do I want to learn?

I would want to know if many school teachers or counselors are speaking to the seniors and getting them ready for college. The students do need to know it is going to be really different once they are on their own in college. I would also want to learn how to prepare a student for colllege since I am hoping to be a teacher some day.

3. Reflection
After reading this article I did think back to my senior year and remember some of this being talked about in assemblies we would have in school. Getting a job was a main factor they influenced all of us seniors to get because they did give us a heads up in how expensive college was going to be and how not all of our parents could afford paying off of it on their own. I enjoyed reading this article because it is all true what it talks about grades are the first and foremost issue in.

Post 2: Giving Students Virtual Access to Their Work

http://www.k12connection.org/giving-students-virtual-access-to-their-work.html

1. What did I learn?

I learned that technology is getting more advanced everyday and when schools switch to virtual labs the students will not need much supervision. We should all benefit to all of these new changes because it can make our lives much easier.
2. What else do I want to learn?
I want to learn about how good the students adapt to these new kinds of technologies they are introduced, by their gender and race. I think it would be much harder for the students that come from a poor background because the kids dont get to experience using the internet or gadgets at home like other kids would.

3. Reflection

I love technology and feel these changes are for the better, the only thing is I understand how hard it is for the teachers that have been teaching for many years because they werent introduced to much technology when they were younger and its harder for them to learn how to use different programs.
